An innovative program designed to expand students’ appreciation of historically significant art and architecture, Art a la Carte introduces kindergarteners through fifth graders to the visual arts from prehistoric to modern times. With parent–volunteer docents as their guides, students learn about famous artists, painting, sculpture and architecture, often in a historical context. Docents teach eight to ten lessons throughout the school year, covering the principles and elements of art and tying art into students’ classroom curriculum. Through this program, students learn to ask informed art-related questions and to approach art as educated critics, all the while building confidence and inspiring their own creativity.
Training sessions for Art a la Carte docents will be held at 8am on 9/26/2011 (k-2nd) & 9/28/2011 (3rd-5th) in the cafeteria. If you are interested in being a coordinator for a class or you have any questions you can contact Suzy Brown at brown.suzy@comcast.net or 713-668-2959.
